Heppner football players Tyler Carter and Derek Howard will represent Heppner as players in the 2019 East West Shrine game this summer.

The Tri-County Shrine Club honored Carter and Howard on May 1st at the Heppner Elks Lodge. This annual recognition dinner brings families, Shrine members and coaches together to hear about the mission of the Shriners organization while recognizing the players selected for the game.

Howard is the son of Matt and Derina Howard. “He was a great teammate and someone who was kind to all he played with and against." Howard is a top track athlete with a state leading mark of 51’10”.

Carter is the son of Scott and Kim Carter. Carter was a first team all-league offensive and defensive player. He was a standout lineman playing Center and Guard. “Tyler always showed up around the ball—whether in football or basketball, you could count on him being there to make plays." Carter was also selected as a second team all-state offensive and defensive player.

Both boys were praised for how they represented their families, school and community by Coach Greg Grant. “The support of parents, teammates, school and community is what molded you into the person you are today," Grand said. “Honor all of them with your actions” was the message given.

The Shrine Football game will be played August 4th in Baker City, Oregon at 7:00 PM.
